About Us
Columbia NOW is the Columbia, SC chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW), founded in 1966. NOW is the largest organization of feminist grassroots activists in the United States with hundreds of chapters, hundreds of thousands of members, and activists in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. At Columbia NOW, we strive to create a community where women can come together to advocate for gender equality and women's rights. We provide resources and support to help women achieve their goals and pursue their passions. Our members come from all walks of life and are united in our mission to promote equality and justice for all women.
Core Issues
NOW is a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization that takes a holistic approach to women’s rights. Our priorities are winning economic equality and securing it with an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that will guarantee equal rights for women; championing abortion rights, reproductive freedom and other women’s health issues; opposing racism; fighting bigotry against the LGBTQIA community; and ending violence against women.
NOW fully supports safe and legal abortion, affordable and effective birth control and other contraception, and reproductive health education for all.

Our Purpose
NOW’s purpose is to have action through activism to promote feminist ideals, societal changes, eliminate discrimination, and protect equal rights of all women in the entire spectrum of social, political and economic life. This is includes, but not limited to, equal rights and responsibilities of citizenship, public service, employment, education, family life. This also includes freedom from discrimination of race, ethnic origin, marital status, sexual orientation or parenthood.
